  1. What expectation does the title create?

The title Eric or Little by Little may imply the text speaks about Eric's growth or evolution  that will probably take place gradually or slowly.

 

  1. Why is it a children's book, if it is?

It is a children's book because it speaks about children and about  problems  and events typical of childhood or early adolescence 

 

  1. What is the structure of the extract you analysed like?

In the text there are dialogues that alternate with narrative sequences.

 

  1. What is the language used like? What semantic fields can you find in the extract?

The language shows a lot of adjectives;  most verbs are in the simple past.

The language reflects the period in which the text was written because a lot of religious, ethic and moral aspects are treated.

 

  1. What kind of narrator is the person who speaks?

The novelist is external, he sees events from outside and he speaks  mostly from Eric's point of view.

 

  1. What is the position of the reader like?

The reader grows and lives events "little by little" with Eric.

 

  1. Who does  the reader side with?

From the dialogues readers can see the situation and judge facts from  more than one point of view and therefore making up an idea or a judgement about the situation and the characters on a more personal basis.
